The photos of the trip are still in the process of editing..... it has taken pretty long this time round and I'm getting impatient myself.
By day 2, pics and pics of it will be coming, I promise.....
It was an early day as we are on the morning flight to London via Bangkok on Thai Airways. We had wanted a direct, non-stop flight but to no avail. Flights from Singapore to London were full.... unless you are wlling to pay a premium for the same seat onboard that airplane. So, we began scouting for alternatives on other asian carriers via their home cities while making sure they also offered the best timing.
As I was busy with work and left the decision of the air ticket purchase to Alvin. He managed to secure Thai Airways from waitlist which was considered good luck as we were just a month away from departure at that time.
We thought we were going to enjoy SQ's kind of similar Krisworld on TG but no ! No even 1% ! There was none personal tv, shows on the big screen sucks..... and can you imagine how you are going to survive that 11 hour flight from BKK to LHR. It really took ages. The only thing we can be contented about is the legroom onboard. Spacious enough for that extra comfort.
Transiting in BKK new international airport was a breeze too. We thought the 3 hour transit is going to kill us but we are surprised we managed to pass thru it without a second of boredom. The shopping in the airport was endless. Though all are branded but it is interesting just to do window shopping. Then, we settled for a early lunch and we even scheduled a 40 min foot massage. Although it cost more for a foot massage in the airport, but it is still very cheap when you convert into SGD.
Finally we landed in LHR on time at 1830 and was getting excited ! But I never imagined the crowd at the custom can be so horrendously long that the happy feeling diminshed quicker than the queue will move. The best part is 3/4 of the people in the queue were Indians. It really took me a while to convince myself that I have no taken the wrong plane and landed in some Indian cities.
After a good 1.5 hour of custom clearance, we managed to collect our baggage quickly and exited the terminal to wait for our transfer. It was another round of waiting. By then, it was already 2000 hours but the sky is still bright, just like our 7pm. The transfer coach were packed full with many different people going to different hotel.... Luckily we were 2nd to be dropped off and we happily checked into our tour hotel which I'm going to spend in there for last than 10 hours.
Alvin's sister cousin Yen, who was working in London, came to bring us out for a meal, together with her boyfriend and a friend. It was supposed to be a dinner but it turned out to be a supper because of our delay at the airport. By that hour, we were left with not much choice but to have mediterranean food and we settled for lebanese food.
The friend that Yen brought along is also Singaporean and she was on holiday for 2 months. We were introduced and she was known as Swee Lin. And you know what, she is Neo Swee Lin, the 'mother' of PCK. I only learnt of it later and no wonder I find her pretty failiar but just didn't think hard about it....oh, probably the jetlag and the overwhelming of Indian that British in the English city.
I was pretty caught by surprise that we actually had a meal together and she is an extremely nice person. She talks to you like an old time friend and even offer to pay her share of the supper when Alvin picked the tab for the whole supper. I was quite impressed that Yen know her as a personal friend and Yen gave me more surprises, big, bigger and biggest surprises later on. Will share more on this later on when the day comes.... haa haa....
We finally hit the sack at 12 midnight but.....but....we got to be awake at 4.45am ! We are going to meet the Tour Director at the hotel lobby at 5.30am.....
......... aren't we suppose to enjoy a relax holiday ? .............
