Titoudao

No one wanted to watch with me..... and finally I found Ms Community also interested and we actually agreed to go and watch together.

I dun know what the hell the story is about, except it is about a true story of a once-famous wayang singer...... anyway, ah beng was also in the cast and that's the more reason to go....

Both of us were busy and didn't really settle for a date to watch....

One fine day, I received an invitation for boss. It's from the Chingay committee and they are hosting all sponsors, helpers to watch Titoudao.... A ha ha ha.... boss cannot go as he is out station. So, I as given the tickets instead..... Eh? How about Ms Community ? She was also given tickets by her boss and we 'ding dong' up down who's going to use who's ticket.....

And so, both of us finally watch Titoudao together ! But seated separately.... Ha ha ha.... he colleague is going with her so I got to also made our manager to go with me.... Ha ha ha....

No regrets ! It was a fantastic play !

There are only 6 actors and actresses but they have to play so many roles. All of them actually learn how to sing hokkien opera and speak in hokkien ! Well, ah beng can speak hokkien is nothing surprising but to sing opera is definitely a challenge. They not only sing but can do all the hands flipping, legs drifting, the circling, etc , etc , like a seasoned opera actor/actress.

Beatrice Chia is a surprise and her evil mother-in-law role is fantastic ! One of my colleague told me today that she was pregnant. Wah.... I must really salute her !

And the best part is they actually brought the backstage to the front stage.... you can see them putting on their make up, change clothes throughout the show. When they are doing the wayang, you can really feel you are watching a real wayang show, except that you are sitting, not standing, in aircon comfort and not in the open air.

Titoudao is actually a male character in a opera play and was played popular by this real-life wayang actress in the 60s and 70s......This play tells her real-life story when she was a kid, how she grown up, survived & learnt wayang, married and endured the evil mother-in-law, etc, etc.... There was criss-cross between her story and the wayang play but you will not get confused. It was heartwarming, comical and funny.

I strongly encouraged all to give it a shot and watch it as you will not regret ! It's not the usual play you have watch. Only one of its kind, in Singapore.

The play has been extended to 31 March at Drama Centre.

Go get your tickets now !
