A Holiday with a Mission – Sai Kung

Alvin grumbled he never had a chance to go Sai Kung to have seafood whenever he went HKG. So this time, he ‘die die’ also have to go.
So, we go lor…. By the economical way !

We asked the hotel concierge how to go and they are very nice to teach us how to make our way there like a Hongkonger…..without a car.

First, u take the MTR to Choi Hung (aka Rainbow) station. Then u exit the MTR station to take the Siew Ba (mini bus)……Before exiting. Look out at the directional signs in the MTR to see which exit u should take…. The directional board will read ‘Minibus Terminal (Sai Kung)’. Then you take that exit.

After exiting, you will see a line of minibuses, ask the driver before u board. The bus should reach Sai Kung terminal…. Just tell the driver,

“I want to go Sai Kung, the Hoi Sin Kai (Seafood Street).”

And pay HKD 7.50 for the journey, terminal to terminal…..sit right to the end.

The bus driver drove the minibus like racing car climbing uphill and going downhill…. No one really get off or get in along the journey and we reach Sai Kung very soon.

So after got off the bus, go towards the left and u will see many yachts parking in the sea of darkness… walk in straight and u see streams of light and this big signboard and you know you are there !

You will see many restaurants and people asking you to seat down to eat at their restaurant. Dun bother about them, keep walking in… until you see…..

Further up another one,

These 2 are always frequented by the Hongkongers themselves. That’s what the hotel concierge told us as they personally been there. There are actually 2 more atas restaurants with the same names much earlier you will encounted before seeing these 2 more humble ones…. Keep walking in and you will finally see these 2 humble ones…

We settled for ‘Chuen Kei’ and you got to pick all the live seafood you want. But funny lor, I want to eat sotong, but they dun have leh……

Alvin picked and picked and we moved on to sit at the table. Then, a waiter came and ask us how we want to seafood to cook and these are the end product……

2 plates of prawns instead. 1 plate being fried (in the pic) and another plate steamed.
As we ate, we began to wonder how much this meal will cost us….. So I told Alvin, ‘If they really want to cheat our money, we also got no choice. How are we going to justify they charge correctly as they will tell you it’s market price. Anyway, we are here for the experience. They won’t have much chance to cheat us again.’

So in all, we ate away HKD 865 (aprox. S$ 173) ……

With tummy so full, we strolled slowly back to the terminal to take the minibus back to Choi Hung MTR station.
