A Holiday with a Mission - Wing Wah

We never failed to buy Wing Wah whenever we went HKG. Not only the traditional yellow egg roll is nice, we discovered the Gui Ling Gao is equally good !

However, since we struggled to carry back 10 tins of egg roll and 6 cans of Gui Ling Gao last Dec, we decided not to buy any this time since Tiger Airways is only giving each passenger 15 kg baggage.

So we didn’t bother to find any Wing Wah shop in downtown HKG while we shopped. While we exited Mongkok MTR station one day, I chanced upon a Wing Wah outlet and so with my itchy leg, I walked into the outlet.

Me : Eh ! Got discount leh ! 1 tin of egg rolls only HKG39. Eh? Gui Ling Gao also on sale leh, 6 tins for HKD 32 only…

My ‘ang’ : Eh? Yah hor ?

Me : Got discount is it ? (in Cantonese to the salesgal)

Salesgal: (in cantonese) No discount. This is the usual selling price.

My’ang’ is having a lot of ???? in his head now.

Me : But the airport is selling HKD 50 per tin of egg rolls and HKD 15 for 1 can of Gui Ling Gao (in Cantonese to the salesgal)

Salesgal : (in Cantonese) Airport will generally be more expensive mah.

Me : And the airport is supposed to be duty free…… (in Cantonese to the salesgal)

Salesgal : (in Cantonese) HKG got no tax on goods ……

So you can imagine our embarrassment and heart pain …… The last trip we bought 10 tins and that’s HKD 500 as compared to HKD 320 if we were to get downtown. We have given HKG 120 more which means I can buy 2 more apparel…….

Ai yo…….. so heart pain…..

So in the end, we still lugged back 3 tins of egg rolls and 12 tins of Gui Ling Gao :> of coz at the downtown store lah !
